Phoneme Isolation
Isolating phoneme is identifying and isolating the first, middle, or last sound in a word. For example, in the word "cat," isolating the initial phoneme would mean identifying the /k/ sound, isolating the middle phoneme would identify the /a/ sound, and isolating the final phoneme would identify the /t/ sound.
